A Glass of Clean, Clear, Healthy Water!

When we come into this world we are pure, without fault, similar to a half- full glass of crystal clean water.  As we go through life and if we are fortunate, our glass gets filled the rest of the way with more clean water.  For many of us though, depending on our life experiences, nurturing and upbringing, instead of being filled the rest of the way with pure water, our glass gets filled with particles, sand and dirt.  The result is that instead of becoming a full glass of water with just a few harmless impurities, we find ourselves polluted and undrinkable.  The impurities inside are usually caused by painful relationships, hurts and resentments that we sustain which then contaminate our glass.

The good news is that regardless of how murky or unclean our water is, if we turn on the tap and allow it to run until it overflows, all the dirty water washes out.  Eventually even the most polluted water has the potential to become pure again.  Our life works the same way.  We have the ability to be renewed and purified when we let God come into our lives, turn on his cleansing spigot and ask him to wash away all the impurities inside us caused by rejection, bitterness and anger.

You may be carrying particles of dirt from the past in your glass.  You may have old destructive habits or mindsets that you are trying to get rid of.  Turning on the spigot and allowing God’s love and forgiveness to pour into your glass and cause it to overflow, washing out the impurities is possible!   By accepting God’s love and forgiveness and allowing him to wash us, we become clean and healthy again.  All we have to do is ask God to make us whole, fill and cleanse us and He will let the water flow!

Don’t choose to live with that murky, mucky water, representing pain from the past, on the inside of you.  Allow God to cleanse you and make you just as He intended….A Glass of Clean, Clear, Healthy Water!

All My Very Best,

Jerilyn

News from our Corporate Office…

President Keen would like to welcome Tracy Greco to the Clinical Staff.  She has been with PATH for 3 years as the Day Treatment Supervisor for the Honesdale center. She is now Honesdale’s Clinical Supervisor. The Corporate Office held the bi-monthly meeting that Program Compliance Manager Erica Frey(to your left) lead and she introduced Tracy to all the clinical staff.  They informed her of  the new and exciting aspects of becoming a Clinical Supervisor! We would like to congratulate Tracy on the promotion! It was a very busy day at the Corporate office on March 4th.  In addition to CPR training, Michele Barrows, D&A Facility Director held a D&A Counselor meeting.  The D&A Counselors attended from each center.  These meetings were very informative and useful.

On March 11th Program Compliance Manager Erica Frey(to your right), held a Self- Medication Administration training.  It was first then Erica’s Bio-Psycho-Social Part A training was held.  This training was lead by a contracted nurse with assistance from President Jerilyn Keen.  Erica trained staff for the rest of the afternoon. Everyone is preparing for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services(OMHSAS) inspection that will be happening soon. President Keen is very confident with everyone passing with flying colors!

A Famous Woman You Never Knew You Knew…

On March 10, 2009 President Keen was acknowledged as one of the Famous Local Women, by Junior Achievement at their annual symposium at Bucknell University.  The Junior Achievement, Inc.  is a not- for- profit organization financed by businesses, foundations and individuals in the community. Their purpose is to educate and inspire young women to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.  The symposium acknowledged local women such as President Keen who participate and help make a difference in people’s lives.  Congratulations President Keen for receiving this honor and recognition.  It takes a special woman to be passionate about what she does and to turn that passion into reality.  It is wonderful to know that we have a president such as Jerilyn to encourage and motivate us with a deep desire to make a difference and the commitment to make it happen!

This is “What’s Happening” at our Centers…

PATH - Bloomsburg:  The Bloomsburg Center has begun to enjoy the beautiful sunshine.  As a recreational activity outside, some clients enjoyed teaching each other how to hacky sack. Congratulations to Karl for working on his treatment goals and being positively discharged!  We wish you the best of luck in the future!  Students have been applying the Relationship Based Cognitive Behavioral Theoretical Model (RB-CBT) curriculum into their daily lives and realizing the positive affects it has been having. We have many positives, including pledges and honor club.  They are doing a great job setting the precedent for the rest of the community to follow. There have been clients who have admitted their responsibility in a matter, and have followed through with the grievance procedure and it has benefited them. They have learned how to use these procedures in real life. Congratulations to Shane who was discharged from the AEP program because of his positive behaviors and hard work within the school environment. The AEP has been learning about public speaking and plant life they have given some informative speeches and started to plant a garden.  Others are reading the Hobbit, learning about the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Congratulations to Caseworker Jason Mordan, for being accepted into the Master of Arts program in Psychology at the Chicago School of Psychology!

PATH - East Stroudsburg:  Our consulting psychologist Karen Livingood recently attended a Relationship Based-CBT training with several of our staff.  She seemed to really get a lot of out of the presentation stating “it gives me more insight into how we are helping the clients once they are approved into the program”.  We have also been developing a relationship with a local doctor’s office who have been referring their clients to our Day Treatment program (DTS).  Josie Castellano has secured free donations of the local newspaper for the AEP and DT clients. They have been learning and processing current events.  Our AEP students have been busy preparing mock election speeches in their history class, where they are split in two groups. Afterwards each group presents the outcome of the activities to their class.  .

PATH - Honesdale:  The Honesdale Center would like to welcome Teacher Suzanne Madden to our team. Both students and clients have been testing norms, but staff has remained strong in maintaining  a positive culture in both the AEP and Day Treatment Programs.  Staff have continued to reinforce appropriate behaviors by holding a pizza party for “positive” and “above” clients in the Day Treatment program.  Rewarding positive behavior continued with breakfast during first break for the higher rating AEP students.  The students knowledge of the country’s 50 states and capitals were tested against staff and they were then challenged to work in groups to complete a U.S. puzzle.  Three students are also preparing to graduate in June and are working towards the completion of their senior projects.    Positive feedback on the staff is commitment to the client’s is received regularly both probation and CYS.  Awesome job team!  The Honesdale team would like to wish the best of luck to Clinical Supervisor/D&A Counselor Gina Constantini as she departs to work in private practice.  We’ll miss you Gina!

PATH - Lehighton: Program Manager Kevin Loch, Regional Director Steve Gaito, Clinical Supervisor Marisa Anderson and Dean of Students Lance Evina conducted a presentation of all programs to the Panther Valley School District on February 25th.  The Team will again be presenting on March 9th to the Palmerton Area School District and will be scheduling with Lehighton School District as soon as the new principal takes over.  The AEP program will be having a bake sale March 9th through March 13th at PATH. All proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is a yearly event that the Lehighton Center will be creating a client of the week program to serve as a motivational tool for the Day Treatment program (DTS).  The winning client will be presented with an extra incentive at the end of the week.

PATH - Group Home - Middleburg: The Halfway House continued to be nearly at full capacity during the month of March. D&A Counselors Jon Gamble and Nicole Buck continue to work hard in providing D&A Counseling services to our 7 clients.  All staff continues to work hard to advance themselves and our facility.  We want to thank Ms. Jenn Fleming for her hard work in getting our WRAT assessments started and almost completed.  The staff at the Halfway House continues to work hard to better our treatment schedule.  We are now working on having a day/night set aside just for clients to have their Narcotic Anonymous (NA) sponsors visit them at our facility.  This will give more one on one time between clients and their Narcotic Anonymous (NA) sponsors. This will assist our client’s recovery and overall treatment! Keep up the great work!

PATH - Milton: We would like to welcome Caseworker Rachel Mitchley!  We appreciated the hard work and dedication of Kurt Eck and Carrie Haney for the extra support they gave to the Day Treatment programs(DTS) during extra busy times.  Staff is preparing for the Office of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) Inspection and have been doing an excellent job.  AEP students are taking PSSA tests and have commented about really being prepared this year.  Day Treatment clients participated in an egg drop contest.  In case you didn’t know what an egg drop is it’s a contest where you design a contraption out of certain materials to protect the egg so when you drop the egg the egg doesn’t break.  The egg that doesn’t break determines the winner. Students did an excellent job and were very creative.

PATH - Scranton: The Day Treatment clients and staff are busy planning a fundraiser that will allow them to reward clients demonstrating positive behavior by taking a trip to a theme park during the summer! Regional Director, Scott Constantini has also challenged all of the clients/students by offering them a special incentive to reward their positive behavior! Scott encouraged clients to actively recruit other clients to join in and become a positive influence also, making the very best of the time they are with us in the program by being positive leaders. Special thanks and encouragement goes out to the AEP staff, who have been tirelessly working at tightening up the norms and battling negative behaviors as the number of referrals continue to rise. We appreciate all your efforts to help make the program run more efficiently, effectively in the final months of the academic year!

PATH - South Montrose: Our AEP students are excited about getting out to play a little football.  Spring is in the air!  Mr. Ron, volunteer, has been helping students and is such a wonderful addition to our PATH family.  He is a very dedicated individual and has been giving up a lot of his time for our center. Thank you Ron! Maryalice Coyle our new D&A Counselor has been taking over our D&A classes. They are doing PSSA’s reading and Mathematics this week.  We have been setting up community speakers to come in to talk to our students. For instance, The Health Department is returning again to discuss the importance of hand washing at the end of the month. In April, we are having the Women’s Resource come in to discuss domestic violence. The Red Cross is also scheduled to come in to discuss HIV. Clients are looking forward to some unique community service activities in March/April. Day Treatment Supervisor, Dan Beesely, plans on taking positive and above level clients out with the PA Fish Commission to assist with trout stocking in area creeks.  We are also looking forward to participate in the annual Big Brother/Big Sister Bowl For Kids Sake Charity. With nicer weather approaching, clients will also be resuming their work on keeping PA roads clean with their street clean up project.

PATH - State College:  We are excited to have new D&A Counselor, Alissa Hinkal join our team and would like to welcome her!  Richard Benninghoff, a local magician visited the day treatment to perform for the clients and staff.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his performance and after the show they were given time to interact and ask questions.  Clients and staff are looking forward to community service projects this spring.  Projects are already planned and they include clean-up at a local park and time spent at a day spa for animals!

PATH - Williamsport:  The PSSA Reading and Mathematic exams are underway for the 7th,8th, and 11th grade students in AEP.  While these test’s are becoming routine, the students are adjusting to a new agenda policy.  In an effort to foster better communication between the school and guardians. The students will now be required to carry an agenda with them to all classes. This will help staff keep track of the students progress on class work, homework, and behavior during the day.  The students will also be given a rating by each teacher daily.  Students will be required to obtain a parent/guardian signature daily and agendas will be subject to random checks to ensure that communication remains open between student(s) and parent(s)/guardian(s).  We would like to thank all those involved, who have helped us create a successful reputation as a quality AEP program.
