Bethesda students raise $1,050 to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society patients
As published Monday, April 10, 2006

Milton – An entire school tackled a single goal when students at the Bethesda Alternative Education Program in Milton said yes to taking part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School and Youth Programs Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

This was the second year that Bethesda students participated in the fundraising event.

The students originally set a goal of just beating last year’s total of $685, officials said.  During a three-week period, though, approximately 35 students worked together and raised $1,050.

The teachers incorporated creative incentives to encourage the students’ efforts, including a Fear Factor and a Pie in the Face event.

Overall, the students in grades six through 12 ere more than generous in bringing in spare change to help make a difference in lives touched by blood cancer, according to officials.

A number of local businesses also provided incentive donations, including and assortment of cookies from Subway, Milton; pretzel bites from D&L Pretzels, Mifflinburg; and doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts, Lewisburg.

In addition to the Alternative Education Program, Bethesda Day Treatment Center Inc. provides foster care, licensed outpatient drug and alcohol counseling and intensive after school treatment.  For information about the agency, visit the website at www.bdtcpa.org or call 649-6855.
